Pinterest is becoming an increasingly important platform for social media. Verifying your WordPress site with Pinterest will give you access to many useful features. For example, you can view figures and request statistics for your photos.

It, therefore, pays to verify a WordPress site on Pinterest. In this step-by-step plan, we explain how this works.

Why you should authenticate WordPress with Pinterest

Pinterest is one of the most popular social media platforms of the moment. Many people get their inspiration and ideas on Pinterest. This is partly because the platform uses photos and videos. You can create an account and then manage your content just like with Instagram.

In addition, Pinterest is known for the use of so-called ‘boards’, a mix of photo, video and other visual content. This is ideal if, for example, you keep a weblog about travel and provide it with lots of photos and videos. Pinterest can help a lot more visitors to the website.

The Pinterest step-by-step plan

In order to link Pinterest to WordPress, you first need to create a Pinterest profile. You have to upgrade to a business account so that you also have access to analytics, advertisements and more. Converting your personal account to a business account costs you nothing extra.

Step 1: a business account

As mentioned, we need a business account to verify our website with Pinterest. This is easy to do. Log in to Pinterest and click on the three dots at the top right of the menu. Then click on ‘Upgrade Now’.

If you have followed this step, you will be asked for more information. For example, you must enter the name of your company, as well as the address of the website and the niche in which you are located. Then click on ‘Continue’. Your account will then automatically be converted to a business account. Of course, it may be that you want to keep your business separate and private. Then you should do a new account.

Step 2: Claim your website at Pinterest

Claim your website by clicking on the three dots again. Then click on Settings.

Then click on ‘claim website’ and then enter the address of your website.

A menu will now appear to verify your website. This can be done in two ways: by placing an HTML code on the website, or by uploading a checklist from Pinterest to your FTP server. It is more convenient to use the HTML tag because you can copy and paste it. Therefore choose the option ‘Add HTML Tag’.

Step 3: Use the HTML tag

There are several ways to authenticate your website to Pinterest using an HTML tag. We always choose to put the tag in the website header. Then Pinterest can find your code faster. In addition, tags must be in the header. In some cases, this is at the expense of the results in Google Pagespeed. In that case, you can better put the code in the footer.

You can place the code in two ways. The easiest way is if you use the Yoast plugin. Click on SEO and then on Social. Then click on ‘Facebook’. Make sure ‘Open Graph Data’ is enabled.

Then click on ‘Pinterest’ and enter the HTML code that you copied in the previous step.

Some websites do not have a Yoast plugin. In that case, you need to download and install the Insert Headers and Footer’s plug-in. Once you have done this, click on Settings and then “Insert Headers and Footers”. Then paste the HTML code of interest and click OK.

Now you have to state at Pinterest that you have placed the code on your website. Click on ‘Next’. Pinterest asks you for confirmation. If you click on ‘Submit’, the request is submitted.

You will then receive confirmation of the process within 24 hours. If successful, you will receive an e-mail that the website has been successfully added. A tick appears next to the domain name at ‘Claim Website’.

Use the features of Pinterest

Once verified, you can take advantage of the many additional features that Pinterest offers to verified webmasters. For example, you can view how often a post has been read, but also add a button to your website so that visitors can easily add your website to their own Pinterest boards. This button can, for example, be linked to photos on your travel blog. Then your visitors can easily share the photos and you may get more visitors to your website.
